The target

A specification defines criteria expected for a material or test. It belongs in the agreed scope and should be read with the method and presentation it governs.

The observation

A result belongs to the material and lot named on the record. It does not automatically describe other lots, future supply or tests outside the reported method.

The reconciliation

Review whether the record is applicable, whether the method answers the intended question, and whether the stated result meets the agreed criterion.
